JULY 2026

1. The Idaho AI Lowdown
The Global Shift:
The biggest story in AI this past month
The biggest story in AI this past month was the release—and immediate government suspension—of Anthropic's new "Fable 5" model. Just days after this incredibly powerful model went live, the US government stepped in and issued an export control directive, forcing Anthropic to disable it for all users, citing national security concerns over potential "jailbreaks."
I had the chance to use Fable 5 for a couple of days before it was pulled. While I was blown away by its raw power, I was equally frustrated by the heavy guardrails and training wheels the creators (and the government) forced onto it.
The 208 Impact:
What does this mean for a business owner in Pocatello or Rexburg?
It is a stark reminder of the danger of building your entire business on rented land. When you rely entirely on one massive tech company's closed ecosystem, a single government directive or corporate policy change can literally shut off your operations overnight. I am holding out hope that something as good, if not better, is coming soon without the suffocating guardrails. But until then, it reinforces exactly why you need to own your tech stack and stay agile.
2. The 60-Second Shortcut
Know Your Claude: Chat vs. Cowork vs. Code
If you want to build a resilient AI stack, you need to understand Anthropic's current lineup. They have split their powerful Claude AI into three distinct tools, and using the wrong one will cause massive friction in your workflow:
-
Claude AI (Chat): This is the web browser interface. Use this for thinking, brainstorming, writing emails, and summarizing documents. It is a conversational assistant.
-
Claude Cowork: This is a desktop automation tool designed for non-developers. Use this when you need AI to actually do things on your computer—like organizing files, bulk renaming folders, extracting data from PDFs into spreadsheets, or running repetitive cross-application tasks.
-
Claude Code: This is a terminal-based agent for developers. It reads your project files, modifies codebases, and integrates with automation setups.
The Shortcut: Stop trying to force the Chat interface to do operational workflows. If you have repetitive desktop tasks, take 60 seconds to download Claude Cowork and let it act as your digital assistant.
3. The 208 Blueprint
Case Study:
The $15,000 Estate Planning Hack
This month's blueprint comes directly from a presentation I recently gave to the local Idaho AI Community in Rigby. The topic? How I used AI to bypass massive legal fees for personal estate planning.
-
The Problem: Estate planning—creating a living will, power of attorney, and a trust—is notoriously expensive. Local attorneys often quote between $10,000 and $15,000 for a comprehensive package.
-
The Solution: Instead of paying that, I used advanced AI models to architect and draft my own highly specific, legally sound estate documents.
-
The Workflow: I fed the AI the specific Idaho state statutes regarding estate law, detailed my exact asset structure, and instructed it to draft the documents step-by-step. It handled the complex legal jargon and formatting perfectly.
-
The Result: I generated a complete suite of estate documents tailored exactly to my family's needs. I then took those AI-generated documents to a local attorney for a simple review and notarization, paying for an hour of their time rather than a $15,000 retainer.
4. Where’s Dustin? (The 208AI Roadshow)
-
My Schedule is Open: As I mentioned last month, I recently wrapped up a massive 90-day implementation project with a private client. With that heavy lift officially in the rearview mirror, my calendar remains wide open.
-
Local Assessments: If your business is in the thick of the summer rush and you are realizing that your systems are bottlenecking your growth, let's talk. I am currently taking bookings for local AI assessments, private consulting, and team workshops. We can get your systems dialed in so you aren't leaving money on the table this season.
